Christmas As Bedrock To The Vision And Mission Of CIDJAP by Onyigbou Everistus Chinedu

Long time ago, alight illuminated, a dazzling star appeared in Bethlehem. Guess what! An innocent helpless child was born by a virgin in fulfillment of scriptural prophesies. He was under the shield of his mother who gave him maximum protection against the darkness of this life that always fights and opposes the light of God.

On the 25th of December, Christians try to recapture this great event of a new born king which marked a positive turning point in history of mankind. It x-rays the depth of God’s love for humanity, the pouring out of himself in totality for the salvation of mankind. Mary in total submission to the will of God, gave a lift to our salvation by harboring and caring for this little child known as the prince and savior of mankind. Jesus was born to restore peace to our souls, fight injustice, empower us, restore our hope, bring good news and declare the year of the Lord’s favor.

CIDJAP as a branch of the main tree continues to expand the good works that was initiated by Christ. She continues to give hope to the hopeless as she touches the lives of the poor through the Caritas desk; the life of the prisoners through her advocacy, releases and rehabilitation of the freed inmates; her sponsorship programmes that have positively changed the lives of many families; her primary health care services which offer services to the generality of the students and workers in Enugu ; her training programmes that have empowered the masses; her micro finance facilities which have boosted the financial stability of many traders; her vocational institutions that have trained and empowered many youths towards self reliance; her housing scheme has guaranteed shelter to many families; her retreat centres have improved and encouraged the spiritual reformation of many people; her Catholic Social Teaching programme has created awareness and improved knowledge of the Social Teaching of the Church in our contemporary society. There are a lot to be mentioned.

The atmospheric condition of this Christmas should awaken all to the challenges that await us. i.e. the work of accepting the new born by continuing in his work of libration, and making the world a better and habitable place to dwell in. this should be our focus.

Christmas is not a period of accumulation of unnecessary wealth either by cheating, stealing, killing or making life unbearable for people. It is a time of sharing God’s love through our activities; a time to reamend our lives by leveling every opposing mountain that stands between us and God, a time to strengthen the cracked way in or lives, a time to x-ray our life deeply and make room for the new born baby.

This is our call; this is our mission and vision. Together, we can make this celebration a blessing in people’s life and positively transform our world.

Wishing all a joyful and glorious Christmas celebration!
