Diploma Programme on Catholic Social Teaching starts in January

Catholic Institute for Development Justice and Peace (CIDJAP) will on 17th January 2011 start off Catholic Social Teaching (CST) Programme.

The programme which is in partnership with Godfrey Okoye University is the Institute’s effort as both research and humanitarian organization to reflect on and make relevant, the social teaching of the church within the context of Nigeria.

The programme is offered to all people of integrity, men and women, cleric and lay, who want to deepen and update their knowledge about Catholic Social Teaching and also play leading roles in the movement for social forms, based upon Christian ideals and its application in given circumstances. Participants are also expected to use Christian principles for the very urgent tasks of responding maturely to societal problems and thereby reshaping the face of the universe.

At a meeting held by the lecturers of the programme at Ofuobi Africa Centre for Social Thought and Action on 7th December 2010, the Director of the Institute said that all the courses were meant to inculcate in our people the position of the church on topical issues like Catholic Social Teaching, Peace and Justice Issues and Education for Community Service.

He thanked the twenty lecturers for their commitment to serve and give their best at all time and prayed that God reward each and every one of them.

Also speaking during the meeting, Sr. Annette Sullivan, the co-ordinator of the programme, urged the lecturers to submit their course content for the entire programme; according to her entire programme; according to her lectures covering over 20 courses in three key areas namely, Catholic social teaching, justice and peace, Studies and education for community service.
